AUTHORITY THAT COMES FROM OBEDIENCE

Please log in or register to do it.

True spiritual authority is not built on titles, popularity, or the desire to control others. It grows from a life surrendered to God, shaped by His Word, and demonstrated through faithful obedience to His will.

Scripture

“But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: ‘We ought to obey God rather than men.’”
—Bible (Acts 5:29)

Reflection

Many people desire authority, influence, and the ability to make a difference. Yet in God’s kingdom, genuine influence begins with learning to submit to Him.

Jesus demonstrated this principle throughout His life. He remained faithful to His Father’s will, even when obedience required sacrifice. His example reminds us that spiritual strength is not about getting our own way but about faithfully carrying out God’s purposes.

Obedience develops the character needed to handle responsibility. When you follow God’s instructions in private, you learn to remain faithful when greater responsibilities come. Your integrity in small things prepares you to influence others with wisdom and humility.

Spiritual authority is not permission to dominate people or demand unquestioning loyalty. It is the responsibility to serve, guide, encourage, and stand for truth under God’s direction.

Sometimes obedience means doing what is right when it is unpopular. At other times, it means surrendering your personal preferences, admitting a mistake, or waiting patiently instead of forcing an outcome.

Ask yourself, “Am I seeking God’s authority to serve His purpose, or am I seeking influence to satisfy my own desires?” The answer can reveal whether your ambitions are being shaped by God.

Do not focus only on receiving greater influence. Focus on becoming more faithful. Study God’s Word, practice what you learn, and allow Him to refine your motives.

When obedience becomes your way of life, your influence can carry greater credibility. People may not always agree with you, but your integrity, humility, and consistency can demonstrate the values you profess.

The foundation of spiritual authority is not how many people follow you, but how faithfully you follow God.

Prayer Point

My Father in heaven, teach me to obey You with a willing and humble heart. Purify my motives and remove every desire for influence that is not aligned with Your will. Help me remain faithful in private, responsible in leadership, and compassionate toward those I serve. Give me courage to obey Your Word even when it is difficult, and help me use every opportunity and responsibility to honor You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Evangelism Tip

Encourage someone who desires leadership or influence to begin with obedience to God and service to others. Remind them that genuine Christian leadership is demonstrated through integrity, humility, and a willingness to follow God’s Word rather than simply expecting others to follow them.

Daily Focus

Seek God’s direction before seeking influence—obey His Word, serve with humility, and use every responsibility to honor Him.
