On Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, the world bid farewell to Pope Francis, who passed away at the age of 88 due to a stroke and cardiac arrest. His death marked the end of a papacy characterized by humility, inclusivity, and a profound commitment to the marginalized.

Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Pope Francis became the first Latin American and Jesuit pope in 2013. His tenure was notable for efforts to reform the Church, promote social justice, and engage in interfaith dialogue.

Despite health challenges, including a recent bout of double pneumonia, Pope Francis made a surprise appearance on Easter Sunday, blessing thousands gathered in St. Peter’s Square. This final act of devotion underscored his unwavering dedication to his flock.

As we reflect on his legacy, we are reminded of the universal call to evangelize. Pope Francis’s life exemplified the Great Commission—to go forth and make disciples of all nations. His emphasis on compassion, outreach, and dialogue serves as a model for sharing the Gospel in today’s world.

In honoring his memory, let us renew our commitment to evangelization, reaching out with love and humility to those seeking hope and truth. May Pope Francis’s example inspire us to be vessels of God’s grace in our communities and beyond.

Pope Francis’s funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 26, in St. Peter’s Square. Global leaders and faithful are expected to attend.
