God is concerned not only with what we do but also with what is happening within us. He works on our thoughts, motives, attitudes, emotions, and desires so that our inner life can become more aligned with His character.
Scripture
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
—Bible (Psalm 51:10)
Reflection
Much of our spiritual growth happens where nobody else can see. God works beneath our outward behavior, shaping the thoughts, motives, emotions, and attitudes that eventually influence how we live.
We may focus on changing our circumstances while God is working on changing us. Sometimes He allows us to recognize impatience, pride, fear, resentment, or insecurity so that these areas can be surrendered to Him.
Inner transformation requires honesty. We cannot allow God to shape what we refuse to acknowledge. Take time to examine your heart without pretending everything is fine. Bring your struggles to God honestly.
God’s work within us is usually gradual. Just as physical growth takes time, character is developed through repeated choices, prayer, obedience, correction, and dependence on God.
Pay attention to what repeatedly affects your thoughts and emotions. What makes you angry? What causes you to become fearful? What do you continually seek for approval? These questions can reveal areas where God may be inviting you to grow.
Do not become discouraged when you discover areas that still need work. Awareness is not failure. It can be the beginning of transformation when you surrender what you discover to God.
Today, spend a few quiet minutes asking God to reveal what is happening within you. Then choose one area to surrender and one practical change to make.
When God shapes your inner world, the transformation eventually becomes visible in your words, decisions, relationships, and character.
Prayer Point
My Father in heaven, search my heart and reveal the areas within me that need Your transforming work. Shape my thoughts, motives, emotions, attitudes, and desires according to Your will. Help me be honest about my weaknesses without becoming discouraged. Remove what does not reflect Your character and develop within me greater patience, humility, love, wisdom, and self-control. Renew my heart and make my inner life pleasing to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
