A devastating accident at Aseseeso, between Adukrom and Somanya, has left two people dead and several others injured after a school bus lost control and crashed.
The victims were students from Ben Kunadu SDA Basic School in the Asante Akyem Municipality of the Ashanti Region. The accident occurred when the bus, registered as GV 83-22 and belonging to Collins Senior High School in Asante Agogo, veered off the road while descending the Aseseeso hill. Reports indicate that the vehicle somersaulted multiple times before landing on its side.
The students were on an excursion to Akosombo when the tragic incident occurred.
Rescue Efforts and Medical Response
Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Awatey, who happened to be passing through the area, immediately joined rescue efforts and helped transport the injured to the Yilo Krobo Municipal Hospital in Somanya.
Medical officials confirmed that two victims, a 65-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl, were pronounced dead on arrival.
Hospital authorities have also revealed that at least 31 to 35 students are currently receiving treatment and are in stable condition, while two critically injured patients have been transferred to the Eastern Regional Hospital for specialized care. Others have also been taken to Atua Government Hospital for further medical attention.
This heartbreaking incident has left families and the community in mourning as authorities continue investigations into the cause of the crash.
